Indian Railway has revised rules for booking tatkal tickets effective from 10th July 2012. As per the new rules, timings has been changed to 1000am instead of 0800am of day before the journey from originating station. All the travel agents including those of IRCTC will not be able to book Tatkal Tickets between 10am to 12 noon from counters and internet as well. At many places, there will be seperate counters for Tatkal buyers, if not preference will be give to Tatkal buyers between 1000-1030 am.
New schemes also includes:
1) CCTV camera installation at all the booking counters.
2) Booking clerks will not be permitted cellphones inside the counters.
3) As per last amendment one will have to submit self attested identity proof while booking from counters.
4) High capacity database servers have been installed. And the bandwidth increased from 344 mbps to 450 mbps to handle increased number of online bookings
5)For online booking between 1000-1015 am, one may receive inquiry call regarding user id, passenger details, journey details, mobile number etc. In case of any fraudulent information ticket will be cancelled and necessary legal actions will be taken
6) An IT-Anti Fraud Squad has been created and complaint cell also has been set up. One can lodge complaints through e-mail at agentcomplaint@irctc.co.in or care@irctc.co.in or telephones.
7) For 120 days advance train ticket timing is unchanged i.e. from 0800, although 1000-1030 only tatkal tickets will be booked.
Indeed Indian Railway has taken necessary corrective actions after complaints from passengers on cornering of tickets by touts. These rules definitely will benefit passengers and increase chances of getting tickets but changes in timing will have drawback as well.
For those who are working, getting ticket from counters will cost half day of work unless their office permits, and booking online will be little inconvenient because that is the time when one is either rushing for office or just reached.
